How is cryptocurrency taxed in Latvia?
Latvia applies a mixed crypto-tax regime — gains can be treated as capital gains or as income depending on how you hold and use the assets.
“Income of individuals from the sale of virtual currency is treated as income from capital gains and is subject to capital income tax, whereas income obtained in the course of economic activity, such as mining or trading on behalf of others, is taxed as business income.”
This reflects guidance from State Revenue Service of the Republic of Latvia (Valsts ieņēmumu dienests), as of 2023-12-31.
